“Turning Things Around” ~ Meet Peter Majestic, 26 years old, working in PPI’s CNC Milling Department for 2.5 years.
Peter Majestic works in PPI’s CNC milling department and feels lucky to come to work every day. When Peter was young, he overcame many challenges, not the least of which was the divorce of his parents. He lived with his father for a time then decided to move down the shore with his mother. He had a variety of odd jobs, and at the age of 16 became a dishwasher. Peter washed dishes for five years 6-7 days a week without a single raise. Over time he managed to work his way up and into to the kitchen where worked as a cook for another two years. Every day was the same, same menu, same food, the same everything. He was bored and not making enough to cover his bills. He ultimately ran into some trouble which led him to move north to his grandmother’s house in the hopes of finding stability and a place to live.
Having no job prospects or plans whatsoever for the future, his grandmother called her sister Jeanne Phillips and asked if there was anything Peter could do at PPI. He was offered an entry-level position in the Saw Department where he worked for several months and then moved into the CNC milling department where he works today. “CNC milling is my calling. It’s the perfect place for someone like me with OCD tendencies,” Peter said. “This is truly my kind of work. Seeing things take shape with such precision is amazing, and knowing that what we do helps people is a real bonus”.
Peter’s passion for his job and appreciation for the opportunity he was granted was plain to see. He said; “I enjoy everything, the regular days, the challenging ones and even the stressful moments. We have a lot of responsibilities, but we all work together. The team in my aisle are great, they always answered my questions and were very patient especially Edgar. He invested a lot of his own time on me to make sure I got to a level where I could take care of myself here. With Edgar’s help, I went from a Class C to a Class B in just one year. He’s amazing, and what he did for me he does for everyone here. My favorite part of the day is set-ups, which I enjoy even more than operating. My goal is to reach a Class A, and get involved in the more advanced things we do.”
Peter is 26 now and lives on his own with his brother. His decision to move north and work at PPI changed his life. “Today, I no longer struggle with money or with relationships. Everything is better and will keep getting better.”
He says his gratitude and the kindness he received at PPI is why he gives 150% every day. When he arrived at PPI, he had nothing, no money, no plan, and never once had he ever set a goal for himself. He was struggling for the very basic necessities of life. Today, all this is in the past, and he’s determined to keep looking forward. “My goal is to be the best at what I do. I’m so thankful to Jeanne for the opportunity and to Edgar and everyone who’s helped me, but especially Edgar who didn’t just teach me how to do the job, he helped me find my calling”.
It was a pleasure to meet Peter, and I thank him for sharing his story. There’s more to PPM than its manufacturing capabilities; I see PPM as a sum of its parts, defined by the individual talents, dedication, and efforts of every one of us.
