PPM introduces our next approach to automation technology, Collaborative Robots or (Cobots). Cobot-assisted manufacturing allows PPM to scale up and add another level of automation to its manufacturing floor.
Cobots deployed on our manufacturing floor will improve efficiency and maximize production increasing our throughput. As a result, Cobots can work independently 24/7 or alongside humans enabling seamless Cobot Co-worker collaboration.
This Cobot technology uses a pick-and-place strategy with double-end effect tooling reducing Cobot movements with a 90-degree rotation feature. Once programmed, the system will operate without human intervention, dramatically increasing spindle uptime. This means more parts and greater capacity.
The first initiative assigned to the Cobot is preparing a wide array of blanks to feed the fifteen 5-axis robotic manufacturing cells we have installed in the past 24 months. This dedicated Cobot package will reduce wait time and ensure production output downstream.
“Cobot technology integration has been very successful here at PPI. The accuracy, flexibility, and capabilities offer great efficiency on our manufacturing floor. As a result, our customers can expect to see continued growth with Cobots and other automated technologies in 2023,” says John Phillips, president of our Implants and Instrumentation division.
